
Follow the well-dressed liberal locals into a side door though and up a flight of neon light-flooded concrete stairs and you’ll soon find yourself inside a whitewashed warehouse, where the East London fashion crowd sit around low-lit tables dining out on French-inflected dishes (think: steak tartare and rabbit schnitzel), served from the open kitchen.

You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d taken a wrong turn on arrival at Bistrotheque because unassuming Wadeson Street in Tower Hamlets doesn’t present like your usual dinner affair. The Alice in Wonderland of venues, the various spaces here are a melting pot of art, music and culture, with larger-than-life installations and, of course, the world-famous egg-pod loos. Sketch, Mayfair Edmund Dabney Sketch, MayfairĪ Mayfair institution, Sketch’s array of ever-changing, art-inspired bars, lounges and restaurants – all housed in a traditional townhouse – have been the backdrop for many a debaucherous nightcap, upscale business lunch, memorable birthday meal and quirky afternoon tea (think: pear and pomegranate cheesecake and lemon marshmallows).
